When you attend the diploma course, you will receive detailed course notes which you may add to as you wish to help you learn. For your home and clinical practice, you may wish to purchase your own mat. There are also several books which we recommend for reading alongside your course notes and for developing your knowledge after your course. Holistic therapies are a fascinating and never ending journey of study and development, none of the books listed here are required for your course, this page is intended as a resource for anyone who wishes to develop their knowledge beyond their studies.
This page contains amazon affiliate links to suggested equipment and books, if you love new books and resources its worth checking this page from time to time as new interesting and relevant books will be added as we find them. Not all books will be directly Thai Massage but all will be relevant to bodywork.
Thai Massage mats
Thai massage is such a versatile treatment, there are many different surfaces you can work on, even a yoga mat or a folded duvet can work if that’s what you have to hand. If you have the space, its worth investing in a good mat. The traditional Kapok mats listed here look lovely in the treatment room and many therapists find the grooves handy in treatment. They come in a few different sizes, smaller ones are great for smaller spaces and mobile work, the larger ones are lovely to work on if you have a big enough working space and don’t need to carry it about too much. Another option is to use a large memory foam mattress topper, these can be great if you prefer a mat with no ridges, it can be rolled up to keep out of the way when not in use and its easy to cover with a fresh sheet for each client. I have listed some bolsters and pillows here too which you may find handy to have in your treatment space.
Suggested books
I am addicted to finding new and interesting books that relate to my treatments. We are all responsible for our own learning and development and books are a great way to do this, each book will have a slightly different angle or approach to treatment. The top of the list contains books that are recommended to support you during the course, further down the list you will find titles which are more advanced or just interesting and inspiring. I hope you find this list useful. If you find interesting books relating to Thai Bodywork which are not listed here, please let me know, I will add them on so others can find them too.
